EMPOWERING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Responsible Practices

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

We take great pride in upholding a high standard of sustainability for our planet, our business, and our communities. We firmly believe that our sourcing decisions play a critical role in achieving this goal. As part of a leading international, multi-channel food and restaurant business (The SNOWFOX Group), specializing in sushi and Japanese cuisine, we understand the importance of providing products that are not only delicious but also environmentally friendly and socially responsible.

Our sustainability commitment is integral to our long-term success. By adopting sustainable practices, we enhance our operational efficiency, reduce costs, mitigate risks, and drive innovation. We strive to create shared value for our stakeholders while contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous world. Our strategy anchors on providing transparent and consistent reporting that demonstrates our impact over time to lead with a purpose within the industry.

CREATING SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS

We prioritize sustainability by focusing on 3 pillars of areas:

Planet

Our mission is to provide healthy, sustainable food without damaging our planet. By minimizing our energy consumption and carbon footprint, we are taking active steps to reduce our environmental impact and serve better food.

People

We believe that our people are the key to our success. Our focus is on fostering a culture of growth and inclusivity by creating an environment where everyone can thrive. We not only empower our employees but also other communities and their well-being.

Product

When it comes to our products, we only select suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, traceability, and transparency to ensure our food is responsibly sourced.

A GREAT COMPANY BEGINS WITH PEOPLE

At the core of our values lies the commitment to cultivate a nurturing work environment and contribute to the betterment of our communities. In line with our dedication to people, we have undertaken the following initiatives:

SNOWFOX PROUDLY SUPPORTS SMILE TRAIN

Snowfox and Smile Train have been proud partners since 2016. As the largest cleft-focused non-profit organization in the world, Smile Train offers free cleft surgery to children in need globally.

The employees and executive staff of Snowfox have proudly established a tradition of supporting the work of Smile Train. TRAINING PROGRAM

We believe that building a sustainable future begins with awareness and education. To foster a culture of sustainability within our organization, we have developed an extensive and ongoing training program.

This program equips our staff with the knowledge and tools to approach food and business practices in eco-friendly and safe ways. By raising awareness and providing practical solutions, we empower our team members to make long-term sustainable choices. To make our training program more accessible and environmentally friendly, we have transitioned it to an online platform, reducing resource consumption and travel requirements.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES FOR A BETTER FUTURE

Continuous improvement is fundamental to our mission. We actively evaluate our ecological impacts and opportunities across our brand, guiding us to make positive differences. To enhance our sustainability performance, we have identified four key environmental focus areas to prioritize our efforts:

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

FISH & SEAFOOD

We are committed to upholding the highest environmental and social standards in our seafood supply chains. To achieve this, we exclusively work with sustainable suppliers who possess certificates from reputable organizations such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), or Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). Our ultimate aim is to eradicate illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing practices from the seafood industry. We utilize FishChoice, a comprehensive online database for seafood sustainability data, to ensure transparency in our supply chain and assist retailers in fulfilling their sustainable seafood objectives. This guarantees that our suppliers adhere to strict environmental and social criteria for aquaculture production and that our seafood is sourced from fisheries that employ responsible fishing practices that safeguard the long-term health of fish stocks and the ocean ecosystem

MEAT

Animal welfare is important to us at Snowfox and we continue to implement processes within our sourcing strategy to ensure that the protein products purchased meet our standards. Higher welfare for broiler chickens is a key area that we are supporting with significant resources. Snowfox company do not process or raise chickens directly. We purchase from suppliers, and it is our responsibility to ensure that we partner with suppliers that are aligned with our commitment to higher animal welfare standards. We’re proud to be supported by Compassion in World Farming, a leading global animal welfare NGO on this work. We believe for change to happen we need to work collectively as an industry. This is why we have signed-up to the North American Chicken Commitment and pledge to continue to improve our welfare standards for each of our businesses.

We had a goal to develop a detailed roadmap by the end of 2023. We are continuing this work by gathering the necessary information from our suppliers and working internally with cross functional teams to understand the opportunities and obstacles to create an achievable roadmap. To ensure that we publish a robust roadmap that we have confidence in, we will continue working with support from Compassion in World Farming to publish a detailed roadmap by mid-2024.

SOURCING TARGET

By the end of 2023, 100% of tuna, salmon, shrimp, and surimi will be certified responsibly, sustainably, and ethically sourced.

By the end of 2025, 100% of key ingredients (chicken, beef, rice, etc.) will be responsibly sourced.

FOOD WASTE

Our unwavering commitment to sustainability drives us to continuously innovate and improve our practices. At Snowfox, we prioritize the reduction of environmental waste through a meticulous approach. Currently, we are in the process of developing a comprehensive system to monitor and track our food waste, allowing us to set quantifiable targets based on reliable data. We will closely monitor our waste output and proactively identify opportunities for enhancement.

Our ongoing focus is on implementing this system to effectively reduce food waste and make a significant positive impact on the environment.

FOOD WASTE TARGET

Our ambition is to work towards reducing food waste in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3

Continue to implement effective impactful solutions to reduce our current food waste by utilizing aspects of the food recovery hierarchy

PACKAGING

Our focus is on protecting the environment by prioritizing the reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials. Our goal is to minimize resource consumption and maximize efficiency throughout the entire lifecycle, from production and transportation to consumption, repurposing, and disposal.

We fully endorse efforts such as the US Plastics Pact, which seeks to prevent plastics from turning into waste and to maintain their presence in the economy while keeping them away from the environment. We are actively seeking ways to partner with innovative suppliers to work comprehensively towards decreasing the need for packaging at all levels – primary, secondary, and tertiary – and minimizing its negative impact.

PACKAGING TARGET

By 2025, we aim to achieve an average post-consumer recycled content of 30% across all plastic packaging.

By 2025, all primary plastic packaging, including trays, bowls, boxes, lids, and bags, will be 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

By 2025, we have a set goal to eliminate all unnecessary and problematic plastic from our packaging.

We conducted a comprehensive assessment analyzing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, encompassing Scope 1, 2, and 3, across our entire Group.

  • Scope 1 emissions – direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by a company

  • Scope 2 emissions – indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heat, and cooling

  • Scope 3 emissions – all other emissions associated with a company’s activities

This analysis helps us identify areas where we can make the most significant reductions and focus on specific aspects of our operations and supply chain, aiding us in setting a target for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.

GREENHOUSE GAS & ENERGY USE TARGET

Our dedication to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact is unwavering. We understand that the choices we make today will shape the world we live in tomorrow, and we are fully committed to building a more sustainable future for everyone.
